Alexvale Tessellated Stone Trunk with Brass Inlay

This tessellated stone trunk by Alexvale Furniture, Inc. is a beautifully restrained example of the handcrafted Philippine stone furniture that defined the luxury interiors market of the 1970s and 1980s.

The exterior is sheathed in hand-cut stone specimens ranging from approximately 1″ × 3″ to 2″ × 5″, fitted closely together in a mosaic-like arrangement across the top, front, and sides. Warm beige anchors the palette throughout, while the stone’s natural variation pulls in understated threads of grey, yellow, and orange. Fine brass inlays run vertically along the top and front panels, with a brass-inlaid circle as a focal accent on both surfaces. Brass fittings also cap the base of the legs.

The original manufacturer’s tag remains intact on the underside. Alexvale Furniture, Inc., founded in 1976 and headquartered in Taylorsville, North Carolina, Mergr produced stone furniture in the Philippines during this era.
