Bill Anson Copper and Cedar Sculpture

Bill Anson’s Copper Clad Cedar sculpture is a monumental, one-of-a-kind mixed media work and a defining example of his celebrated Copper Clad Cedar Collection. A large cedar form was carefully shaped, then hand-wrapped with individually fitted copper panels — each painstakingly nailed with copper nails set no more than one inch apart. The result is a commanding 70-inch tall, 40-inch diameter sculpture that is as technically extraordinary as it is visually arresting.

Anson (1933–2018) was a graduate of the Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he studied under direct disciples of Bauhaus masters who fled Germany before World War II. His work draws deeply from African art, indigenous North and South American design, and the organic sculptural language of Henry Moore. Influenced also by Picasso and Frank Gehry, Anson’s sculptures have been placed in numerous public and private collections throughout the Palm Springs and Southern California region. A rare and important collector’s opportunity.
