Emilia Castillo Silver Plated Copper Soup Tureen With Malachite And Rope Handles

A striking hand-hammered silver-plated copper soup tureen with matching ladle by Emilia Castillo, Mexico, circa 1990s. This elegant lidded vessel exemplifies Castillo’s signature combination of organic form and rich materials, pairing polished silver surfaces with inlaid malachite accents and braided rope handles.

The ladle, measuring 12″H x 3.5″ diameter, echoes the tureen’s design with a curved malachite-inlaid handle. A functional yet decorative centerpiece, this set embodies the artist’s dedication to natural motifs, luxurious texture, and distinctive detailing. Excellent for display, entertaining, or collectors of fine Mexican silver design.

Emilia Castillo is the daughter of Antonio Castillo, one of the four founding brothers of Los Castillo, the legendary Taxco silver workshop established in the 1930s. Los Castillo became internationally celebrated for its innovative use of mixed materials: silver combined with copper, brass, and semi-precious stones.

Emilia inherited this artisanal legacy, establishing her own studio in Taxco in the late 1980s. Her work now, in jewelry, continues the family tradition of fine metal-craft while introducing a more organic modern aesthetic, blending silver-plated copper, natural stones, and hand-hammered textures in sculptural, contemporary forms.
