Fine Carved Wood Box With Morning Glories

This antique hand-carved walnut box, adorned with a breathtaking relief of morning glories, stands as a testament to the work of a true master craftsman. The lid showcases a full bough of flowers and leaves rendered in extraordinary detail, The petals, veining, and stems are carved with a precision rarely seen in decorative woodwork. Bordering the perimeter, a repeating vocabulary of motifs adds architectural rhythm: spear-shaped leaves, a modified egg-and-dart molding, and additional ornamental detail.

The box retains its original keyhole escutcheon and working lock, though the key is no longer present. Four delicate carved feet lift the piece with an elegant, refined stance.
