A labeled set of four “Marina” swivel chairs designed by Sally Sirkin Lewis for her celebrated Los Angeles firm, J. Robert Scott, retaining the manufacturer’s tag confirming the model. The chairs present a gently curved barrel back and tapered arms sweeping continuously into a deep seat, upholstered in a soft camel-toned leather with the asymmetric panel seaming characteristic of J. Robert Scott’s hand-cut leatherwork, where no two chairs are seamed identically. Each sits on a substantial drum-form base finished in a warm copper/rose-gold plating, a distinctive variant of the model, which is more commonly found on polished chrome or stainless steel bases. True to the design, the chairs both swivel and roll, with casters concealed within the base for ease of movement.
Founded in 1972, J. Robert Scott became one of the definitive names in California luxury interiors under Sirkin Lewis’s direction, prized for its exacting leatherwork, quality of materials, and sculptural, comfort-driven forms that bridged Art Deco revival glamour with modern ease. The Marina remains among the most sought-after of her seating designs, and labeled examples in good original leather are increasingly scarce to the market.
