A striking dining table by Karl Springer, its broad circular top cantilevered over a substantial drum-form pedestal base. The table is fully wrapped in a rich cognac-toned lizard-embossed leather, its scaled texture catching the light across the wide, gently curved edge of the top and continuing seamlessly down the cylindrical base. The oversized round surface appears almost to float above its support, a hallmark of Springer’s sculptural, minimalist approach to form.
This table is signed and dated 1985 to the underside, confirming its production during Springer’s mature working period. The piece is in excellent vintage condition with a rich, original lizard-embossed leather finish; minor wear consistent with age and use may be present.
A commanding, versatile dining table suited to both contemporary and eclectic interiors, offering seating for six to eight depending on chair selection.
Karl Springer (1931–1991) was among the most influential American furniture designers of the postwar luxury market, celebrated for his innovative use of exotic and unconventional materials: lacquer, shagreen, goatskin, python, and embossed lizard leathers rendered in bold, architectural silhouettes. His work bridged Art Deco glamour and Postmodern restraint, and remains highly sought after by collectors of high-end 20th-century design.
