Philippe Starck Man Ray Wheelbarrow Chair – Reupholstered

This striking “Man Ray” chair by Philippe Starck is one of the designer’s most playful reinterpretations of surrealist inspiration. Starck developed the form after Man Ray’s iconic fashion photograph in which a model, dressed in an evening gown, is posed regally in a wheelbarrow. Translating that sense of humor into functional design, he created a sculptural lounge chair supported by a large rear wheel, giving the silhouette the unmistakable character of a refined wheelbarrow.

Crafted in bleached wood, this chair was manufactured for the Clift Hotel in San Francisco in the late 20th century, part of the celebrated interiors project led by Starck.  We currently have 2 chairs, priced seperately. The chairs have been meticulously reupholstered in pale purple Coraggio wool, echoing the tone of the original vinyl while enhancing the elegance of the frames.
