This striking large-scale abstract painting is the work of celebrated French artist Pascal Magis (1955–2011), executed in acrylic on canvas and dated 1999. Measuring an impressive 4 ft 11 in × 4 ft 11 in, the square format commands attention with its bold, gestural energy. A field of saturated crimson dominates the composition, punctuated by sweeping passages of black, cobalt blue, cadmium yellow, and white. All applied with the spontaneous, intuitive brushwork that defined Magis’s style throughout his career.
Magis, who trained in France and exhibited internationally, was celebrated for his expressive use of color and the raw physicality of his paint application: treating acrylic with the freedom of oil. The painting is signed top right and verso, with the date inscribed on the back. An exceptional statement piece for a residential or commercial interior.
Pascal Magis (1955–2011) was a French painter celebrated for his bold, emotionally charged abstractions. Working primarily in acrylic, he developed a gestural language rooted in the expressive traditions of the École de Paris, applying paint with visceral energy and an instinctive command of color. Magis exhibited widely in France and internationally during his lifetime, earning recognition for work that occupies a compelling space between abstraction and raw feeling. His paintings are held in private collections throughout Europe and North America.
