Set of Six Limited Edition – Città di Carte – Porcelain Plates – Piero Fornasetti

$3,000

This rare set of six “Città di Carte” porcelain decorative plates was produced by Fornasetti, Milan in 1993, featuring one of Piero Fornasetti’s most celebrated and imaginative series of architectural fantasies inspired by playing cards.

Each plate depicts a distinct surreal landscape in which towers, cities, islands, and monumental structures are constructed entirely from playing cards. Originally conceived by Piero Fornasetti in the mid-20th century, the Città di Carte series exemplifies the artist’s unique ability to merge classical draftsmanship with wit, illusion, and dreamlike architectural invention.

The reverse of each plate bears the printed Fornasetti Milano mark, pattern title, Made in Italy, and the hand-numbered inscription “S. N° 5/10 A.93,” indicating production in 1993 and identifying this set as No. 5 from a limited edition of only 10. The matching edition marks across all six plates suggest they were issued together as part of the same numbered portfolio.

Beautifully printed in muted tones of sepia, slate blue, turquoise, and black with accents of red from the playing cards, these plates are intended as decorative objects and create a striking wall installation either individually or as a group. An exceptional opportunity to acquire a scarce limited-edition Fornasetti series from the early Barnaba Fornasetti period, combining artistic significance with remarkable rarity.
