This two-tier occasional table exemplifies Finn Juhl’s celebrated collaboration with Baker Furniture Company, launched in 1951 as the first American-produced collection by the Danish master. The rectangular top is defined by Juhl’s signature raised sculptural lip at each corner, a hand-carved detail that appears throughout his Baker line and later work for France & Søn, floating above a lower shelf tier joined by an angled cross-stretcher. The table is raised on four tapered, gently swelling round legs in solid walnut, terminating in black nylon glides.
The design reflects Juhl’s organic modernist sensibility, softening the rectilinear form with sculpted, hand-finished edges rather than applied ornament, a hallmark of the Baker Modern line that helped introduce Scandinavian design principles to the American market in the early 1950s.
Date of Manufacture: Most likely 1967 as referenced in the markings.
