William Haines – Triangular Planter Side Table from His Lorna Lane Residence

$12,500

This triangular prism form planter side table by William “Billy” Haines comes from his own residence on Lorna Lane in Los Angeles. The house was sold with many of Haines’ furnishing included with the sale and had remained there until recently. The case is veneered in both a ribbon-figured mahogany as well as a beautiful Flame Mahogany on the top with a rich, glossy lacquer finish, set on a plinth base in contrasting black lacquer. The interior holds a removable waterproofed metal liner, sized for a low potted plant, which lifts out cleanly for watering or cleaning.

The table has been fully restored: the original bottom, which had rotted from decades of direct contact with the planter liner, has been replaced, and new lacquer refinished to a high polish. Its triangular form works well in a corner or as an accent between seating. Provenance and photos of the table at the Lorna Lane house have been included. A rare, well-documented example of Haines’ sculptural, tailored approach to mid-century design, with direct provenance to the designer’s own home. A rare opportunity to own a piece of design history.
