1960s Tommi Parzinger Walnut and Lacquer Server

This original 1960s server by Tommi Parzinger exemplifies refined mid-century modernism at its most glamorous. Rich walnut stain saturates the case while preserving the wood’s natural grain. The base and legs are finished in sleek black lacquer, grounding the piece with graphic formality. Two doors and three drawers provide generous storage, each appointed with Parzinger’s signature hand-crafted brass hardware. The left interior is configured for silverware storage; the right offers open shelving. Three inset panels of black glass crown the top, introducing a bold horizontal rhythm and a striking contrast of materials.

Tommi Parzinger (1903–1981) trained at Munich’s Kunstgewerbeschule before establishing Parzinger Originals on New York’s 57th Street, where his cosmopolitan designs, rooted in rich wood textures, lacquer, and handmade brass hardware, attracted a devoted clientele.  Among his collectors were Billy Baldwin, Marilyn Monroe, and many of New York’s most notable families. His archives are held at the Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt Museum.
