A commanding Hollywood Regency dining table of exceptional graphic presence, the design built entirely around the visual drama of its pedestal base. Alternating square-format discs of clear Lucite and black acrylic are stacked in tight, rhythmic sequence to form a monolithic column. The interplay of transparency and opacity creates a light-refracting, almost architectural effect that shifts with the viewer’s angle and ambient light. The column rises from a stepped square black lucite plinth and supports a substantial round plate glass top with an ogee edge.
The Ritts Company of Los Angeles, headed by Herbert and Shirley Ritts (parents to famed photographer Herb Ritts), and operating under the Astrolite brand trademark registered in 1969, was among the most prominent California producers working in high-end acrylic during this period. The quality and vocabulary of this base is consistent with their output and that of their West Coast contemporaries. The stacked column form relates directly to the pagoda and ziggurat motifs that recurred across Ritts lamps, pedestals, and objects throughout the 1970s.
The result is a table of genuine interior authority: glamorous and architecturally rigorous, equally suited to a maximalist Regency interior or a spare, loft-scale modernist room.
The table is pictured with a 48″ glass round but could be at least 60″ round, in addition a square glass would work well.
