Patinated Bronze Kneeling Woman by Guy Charles Revol

This patinated bronze sculpture of a kneeling woman is a striking example of Guy Charles Revol’s classical figurative work. The figure kneels on her left knee, arms resting on her right, head turned quietly over her left shoulder. The pose is introspective and fluid. It may represent an interpretation of Venus Kneeling. The rich verdigris patina gives the surface depth and age. The piece is signed, numbered, and bears the Valsuani Foundry mark.

Guy Charles Revol (1912–1991) studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He won second prize in the Prix de Rome in 1937. His public commissions include a fountain for the 1937 Paris Exposition Internationale and a low relief for the French Pavilion at the 1939 San Francisco exhibition. He was named Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur and Officier des Arts et des Lettres.
